When Fashion Week hit Paris last February, a heavily pregnant Sarah Burton presented an abbreviated yet totally opulent and theatrical collection for Alexander McQueen. And now, with the output of a lookbook, we get to see the full effect of the Fall 2013 collection. In my opinion – it’s exquisite. There’s a lot to love here, with a beautiful balance of theatricality and wearability in the pared-back Elizabethan details. Also, the shoes – how cool?!
The presentation of the lookbook also deserves a shoutout. Rather than facing forward in a a straight-ahead kind of pose, the model brings movement and life to the clothes while also showing them off in a more three-dimensional way. But, not all forum members are as convinced about this lookbook and collection as I am.
“This is too much on the costume-ish side for me,” valliaddict decided. “This is what happens to designers when they run out of ideas. They use the same silhouettes, but they just embellish them more. I'm bored by her,” he concluded.
CommanderTMugler posted, “I feel like they're costumes for a new production of the Salem Witch Trials. The shoes are hideous.”
Softgrey, fortunately, agreed with me on this collection. “Well—I am wonderfully surprised by this,” she declared. “I find it extremely wearable and desirable… Damn! I'd love to look like that!!! It's very 'Sasha Fierce',” she laughed. “The whole thing is brilliant.”
I’m just gonna leave you on that note. Brilliant.
