This Best Supporting Actress nominee has certainly experienced a style transformation. Instead of princess-style gowns, Anne Hathaway's now favoring more radical looks from the likes of Tom Ford, Givenchy and Saint Laurent. Her edgy aesthetic has been met with a range of reactions from praise to criticism. Of course, Anne's probably too busy collecting awards to care what anyone says about her newfound style.
Anne was once synonymous with romantic gowns. The Princess Diaries star looked like a real-life princess in this white ruffled Valentino Spring 2006 Couture gown in July 2011 over in France for The White Fairy Tale Love Ball. Her unexpected style shift can be traced back to when she cut off her hair for her role in Les Misérables. Anne was spotted with the shorter hairdo at Stella McCartney's Resort 2013 presentation this past June in New York City decked out in the designer's ivory suit.

Flash forward to September when the actress attended the New York City Ballet 2012 Fall Gala in a dramatic long sleeve Valentino Fall 2012 Couture embroidered gown. Kwiat earrings and a Roger Vivier clutch polished off the look. When it was finally time to start the promotional tour for Les Misérables, Anne made a pretty bold statement at the London premiere courtesy of her off-the-shoulder Givenchy. The beaded white satin Spring 2012 Couture gown also featured an open back.

It was a much more reserved outfit for the after party, though. Anne sparkled in this Altuzarra Spring 2013 embellished top and black high-waisted skirt ensemble. She accessorized with a Jill Milan clutch and Casadei pumps. For the musical's New York showing the following week, the star surprised everyone by opting for a dominatrix look. Her black taffeta Tom Ford Spring 2013 gown included a revealing slit perfect for showing off the designer’s bondage boots.

The actress suited up in Saint Laurent for the 2013 National Board of Review Awards in New York City last month. Her Spring 2013 black menswear look was teamed with a ruffled blouse, a Jill Milan clutch and Givenchy sandals. Anne brought some color to the 2013 Producers Guild Awards in Los Angeles in this floral embroidered Erdem Pre-Fall 2013 dress. She rounded out the look with Pomellato jewelry, a navy Christian Louboutin clutch and Giuseppe Zanotti gold sandals.

She was back in black the following day for the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 Couture tulle gown with embroidered bodice had just made its runway debut and Anne styled the decadent creation with Kwiat jewels, an Edie Parker clutch as well as Jimmy Choo Kalpa sandals. Anne's black Burberry she wore to the 2013 BAFTA Awards in London earlier this month wasn't the star's first choice. Apparently the zipper broke on her original dress, so she selected this studded gown as a stylish alternate accented with Rona Pfeiffer cuffs.
Anne's rather striking metamorphosis has us fantasizing about what she might wear to the Oscars on Sunday.
