The New York clothing label Slow and Steady Wins the Race is probably best known for the series of bags that it created in cotton muslin and canvas twill based upon the classic styles from Balenciaga, Hermes, Chanel, Dior, and Gucci. 

These homage’s to the iconic were stripped of the ephemeral and left with only the core hardware or shape to identify them.  Liberating both from a design perspective as well as a financial one, as the SASWTR bags sold for around $100, they fulfilled the label’s mandate of transposing the experimental and avant-garde with the world of the High Street.

Now Slow and Steady Wins the Race has moved onto footwear.  Classic silhouettes, such as the ballet flat and Oxford, are pared down to the essentials and presented in natural, unbleached canvas.  At once simple yet complex, surreal yet ordinary, these are surely a new classic in the making.
