Much has been made lately about the collaboration between Jimmy Choo and Ugg Australia – the two recently announced that they are working on a co-branded, limited-edition collection set to debut in October. But that’s not the only out of left field footwear collaboration in the works.
Giorgio Armani has partnered with Reebok International Ltd. for a special collection for the EA7 and Emporio Armani labels, and the resulting shoes will be unveiled during the Milan Fashion Week Men’s shows this season at the Emporio Armani show. In a statement, the designer remarked that sportswear and active wear have “become really important parts of our wardrobes,” and that he “wanted to offer customers the possibility of wearing sports clothes that were stylish and comfortable." He stated, "My new alliance with Reebok is a natural consequence of this philosophy. As with all my collaborations, I am delighted to be working with experts in their field.”
Of course one cannot discuss sportswear and Armani without pointing out the fact that the designer has just enlisted hunky Portugeuse soccer player Christiano Ronaldo as the face of his Spring 2010 Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans collection (Armani previously worked with David Beckham), so the designer clearly has an affinity for the athletic build. As for Reebok, they’ve done a great job melting together functionality with fashion – most recently with EasyTone – so I’m excited to see how these shoes turn out.
