TREND: RIPPED HOSE

It gets cold during the fall and a girl needs a couple pairs of tights to wear with those minis. Strong, gothic looks have been seen on the catwalks including studded accessories, black, 80’s-inspired clothing, and platforms that are sure to raise you to model height.

Although they might not be weather-practical, ripped hose have been seen on the runways and on the hot, city streets this summer, and plan to continue into winter wardrobes. At the experimental phase, some celebs and fashionistas have taken the look too far, borderlining on streetwalker fashion.

Check out the designer looks below for the “proper” way to wear the look, leaning heavier on the scale towards “glamour punk” over “trailor trashy.”

Monique Lhuillier balances a sophisticated silk suit with a strategically slashed pair of hose for a vintage hint to a modern look.

Alexander Wang adds a few rips to a pair of sheer black hose layered under socks and boots for a punk looks that’s surprisingly comfortable.

Scarlett Johanson poses for a Mango ad inspired by Blondie, looking fabulously 80’s chic in sexy ripped tights.

Monochromatic in black, an Olsen sister applies volume and layers with a pair of opaque black tights with a single slash at the thigh.

And then there are those who go too far. Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears go a little overboard with ripped stockings and mismatched looks that beg the question if there should be written instructions on the pantyhose packaging.

If you decide to go nylon-slashing in your lingerie drawer, keep the rest of your look simple so you don’t end up looking like you are coming home at early sunrise doing the “walk of shame.”
